1. Understand Your Plan Going into Each Day
Courage comes with planning because educated decision making is built on a stronger foundation. To be a successful entrepreneur is to understand your goals and setup procedures to achieve them → failure is part of that process.
Here is an example checklist of things to be aware of the night before:
- What is the most important thing I need to accomplish right now
Can I achieve it tomorrow?
If not, can I take any step forward today to get me closer tomorrow?
- What is one thing I can do to help my mental health?
Meditation is something that works for me but it is not the easiest to pick up
A short walk by yourself or accompanied by music or a pet
A conversation with family or friends; you must express to them that this conversation needs to be positive.
- Review calendar for meetings + any to-do list software. Personally we like to use any.do It is free and allows for personal and professional planning. It is easily synced to your calendar.
Before you go to bet input the things needed to successfully complete your day
Setup daily / week notifications to keep you on track
Remember to not OVER book yourself. Personal time is just as important for productivity.
- Setting reasonable expectations for your day
Last and most important is this because making sure you set up consistent positive habits is the only way to achieve long term success. Overworking leads to burnout and no one is safe from that.
Make the goals stepping stones - at first it might not feel like much but 6 months down the path you will understand how far you have come.
Make sure to set yourself up for a successful tomorrow by decompressing and starting your sleep process. This is important and is sometimes overlooked but setting up a consistent habit to reach sleep is crucial for not only personal growth but health.
2. Setting Up an Online Presence and Brand
The number one thing that will grow an online presence is original content; video, written or voice. Anything or anyone that is outputting unique content will be blessed with not only algorithms favoriting them but also slowly earn a fanbase.
Mr. Beast is the king of content creation and promoting his brands. He struggled for a long time but now has a cult-like following because his content is unmatched… people know what to expect and come back seeking more.
Once you have a following, no matter the size it is important to now manage that presence. The photo below represents how to balance the three pillars of a successful brand in today's age.
3. Put Yourself in Positions to Network
With the pandemic being thrown upon us, many were left confused… trying to figure out how to mimic old ways of networking instead of embracing the pipelines to meet like-minded people.
Without a doubt the biggest success during the pandemic for entrepreneurs and people focused on networking. For those of you who aren’t familiar with it: Clubhouse is a voice only phone application where you can join different rooms with highlighted discussion topics.
People have used clubhouse to;
- Raise venture capital
- Connect with angel investors
- Find Jobs
- Create companies
It is a digital hotspot that was extremely organized and never went to sleep.
At this point Linkedin is the most useful tool in your professional life. It provides a track record of work history and career trajectory - having your profile up to date allows you to attract the most value. The ability to search and find people so clearly is truly an asset we can’t afford to pass up.
This article: Now Is the Time to Make LinkedIn a Strategic Priority. Here’s Why, breaks down the benefits of linkedin in more depth.
There are many more outlets but focusing your efforts on these two will greatly increase your network. I must make a note that you need to add these habits to your lifestyle - update and connect with others daily.
4. Invest in Your Learning: Courses, Videos or Books
“An investment in knowledge pays the best interest” Benjamin Franklin
School has turned my generation (millennials) numb to wanting to learn. After graduating college the last thing most people want to do is pickup a book. The first and most important thing to be a successful entrepreneur is to reframe your opinion on learning.
Reading a book can be more bountiful than treasure - I really mean that. As a younger man I was almost tricked into liking to read… am I mad now, not in the slightest. I sing this man's praise from the rooftop because I genuinely love to educate myself now.
Beyond just learning there are ways to positively impact your approach to learning. One of my favorites is YouTube videos because they are free and I can learn at my own pace but recently I have begun investing in curated online classes. I started with Masterclass but I continued to sites like Udemy so that I good gain specialized knowledge from niche teachers. This changed my way of seeing the world - my perspective now looked for solutions. This slight change made a huge difference over the course of my life.
5. Set Goals and Read Them Daily
“You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream.” — C. S. Lewis
Through life, setting goals has taken me on the journey of a lifetime. They have made me more aware of my daily actions and the things I needed to get where I wanted to be.
The secret to successful goal setting is not only writing them down but carrying them with you. By doing this you are setting yourself up for constant reminders. This is the key in creating the motivation to follow through - life is hard and days can begin passing by. You need to make the conscious decision to put goal reminders in places you will see.
